Are you traveling to Rome soon and landing in Ciampino Airport, and need information on how to get from Ciampino Airport to Rome? You are in the right place.
Ciampino Airport is the budget airlines hub of Rome, and connects the city to a multitude of cities in Italy and Europe. The airport is located just 12.5 kilometers (7 miles) southeast of Rome, close to the Castelli Romani where you’ll find Frascati and Castel Gandolfo.
The airport is significantly smaller than Fiumicino Airport (the main airport in the city, which connects it to the rest of the world), and going through security here is a breeze. I have just come back from yet another trip to Rome (I was there last weekend for a concert) and – incidentally – flew into Ciampino (a trip I have taken many times).
So, I am ready to share with you all the available ways of getting from Ciampino Airport to Rome. Don’t worry, it’s a very easy trip – especially if you are traveling light with little luggage (which is likely the case if you are flying there with a budget airline).
Are you landing in Fiumicino Airport instead? Then you need to read my post How To Get From Fiumicino Airport To Rome City Center.

How To Get From Ciampino Airport To Rome
As I have already said before, Ciampino Airport is much smaller than Fiumicino, but there are still many options to get to the city.
Hera are a few things I recommend you consider when deciding how to travel from the airport to the city:
- Where are you staying in the city – some locations are better served by public transport;
- What time your flight is landing;
- How many people are you traveling with – it may be worth sharing a taxi;
- How much luggage you have.

Bus from Ciampino Airport to Rome

The bus makes an intermediate stop in Ciampino Center along the way and takes around 45 minutes to get to Rome Termini Station. One way tickets start at €6.
You can get your Terravision bus tickets online here, or directly at the airport once you land.
The other company that operates the bus from the airport to the city is SIT. There are four buses throughout the day. The first departure from Ciampino is at 9:20 am. The last bus departs at 4:30 pm. The bus makes a stop along the Aureliana and near the Vatican before getting to Termini Station.

Taxi from Ciampino Airport to Rome
When I flew to Rome last weekend with my sister and my brother in law, we opted to take a taxi from the airport as we were staying in Trastevere. It was easier and since we could share the cost the price difference was such that it made more sense to travel more comfortably.
Taxis from Ciampino Airport to Rome operate on a flat rate system – it costs €40 to get to the city, and you can pay either cash or card. The journey takes around 35 minutes, but it depends on where you are staying. The route taxis follow is very scenic and you can already start admiring the city from the car.
The taxi stand in Ciampino Airport is on the right once you exit the terminal.

Private transfer
There are plenty of taxis that cover the route from Ciampino Airport to the city, so you don’t really need to book a private transfer.
However, this may be a good idea if you are traveling in a larger group and have lots of luggage, as a private transfer service allows you to pick the kind of car you wish to have and select how many pieces of luggage you are traveling with.
The car will be waiting for you as soon as you land and take you directly to your hotel. Prices are from €60 for a group of 4 passengers, which means you are looking to pay €15 per person.
I always use Welcome Pickups anywhere in the world whenever I need to book a private transfer. I have also used them in Rome and have found the cars to be comfortable, the drivers reliable and punctual.
Train from Ciampino Airport to Rome
There is no direct train from Ciampino Airport to Rome Termini Station, so I never recommend this way of traveling. In case you want to do it this way anyways, you can opt for a combination of bus and train.
This service is called Ciampino Airlink and it’s by far the most budget friendly way of traveling between the airport and the city – it only costs €2,70 in total.
For the Ciampino Airlink, walk to the square opposite the airport. The bus will drop you off at the train station where you can jump on a train to Termini.
The first departure is at 5:55 am, and the last one at 10:40 pm. There are regular departures throughout the day, and travel time depends on the time of day: it can take as little as 29 minutes.
